Hello everyone,

I am restoring a 1981 Mercedes-Benz NG 1932A 4x4 in Argentina.

Model: 389.125

VIN: WDB38912514810175

I need to replace the original clutch slave cylinder.

According to the Diesel Technic catalogue, DT 4.60684 should fit my truck.

However, my original cylinder looks completely different.

The original unit is marked with the Mercedes-Benz star and FTE, but unfortunately there is no visible part number anywhere.

I have attached detailed pictures of the original cylinder, the mounting, the pushrod, the flange and all visible cast markings.

Has anyone seen this version before?

Does anyone know the original Mercedes-Benz part number?

Is there perhaps an early and a late version for the NG series?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

As your truck is equipped with a PTO, according to your VIN, it does not have the standard slave cylinder, but a special version.
The part number for this cylinder should be A 001 295 08 07.

Thank you very much for taking the time to check my VIN and for this very valuable information!

That makes perfect sense. I hadn't considered that the PTO could require a different clutch slave cylinder, which explains why my original FTE cylinder doesn't match the Diesel Technic replacement.

I will contact my local Mercedes-Benz dealer here in Argentina and ask them if they can still supply part number **A 001 295 08 07**.

Unfortunately, the NG series was never very common in Argentina, so I'm not very optimistic that the part will still be available locally.

If they cannot supply it, could you perhaps recommend any reliable Mercedes-Benz truck parts dealers or FTE specialists in Germany or elsewhere in Europe who might still stock these older parts?

Thank you very much for all your help.

Your information has been extremely valuable. I now have the correct Mercedes-Benz and FTE part numbers, as well as the repair kit number.

My next step is to contact my local Mercedes-Benz Truck dealer. Although these trucks are very rare in Argentina, they should be able to check whether the complete cylinder or the repair kit is still available through the Mercedes-Benz network.

Thanks to your help, I now know exactly what I am looking for.

I will post an update once I have an answer from Mercedes-Benz Argentina.

I understand it's a rare part, but the prices seem a bit high to me for a slave cylinder. It might be better for me to repair the pushrod and the cylinder (they look pitted) and just replace the seals and O-rings. Knowing the part number for the repair kit is extremely helpful.

Meanwhile, my local Mercedes-Benz Truck dealer is checking the part number. Their EPC suggests A 001 295 88 07 instead of A 001 295 08 07.

They also sent me this exploded view:
The slave cylinder shown there looks completely different from the original FTE cylinder installed on my truck.

Since my truck is equipped with a PTO, could this perhaps be the standard version instead of the PTO version?

I'll report back once I have an answer from Mercedes-Benz Argentina.

This seems to be a failure in the current spare parts system (XENTRY parts information). It only shows the standard clutch cylinder for your VIN.
By using the old spare parts system (EPC), the PTO clutch cylinder appears on the screen for your VIN!

The correct exploded view looks like this:


The correct part numbers are:

A 000 295 91 07 clutch slave cylinder = FAG KN 4402 A1
replaced by
A 001 295 08 07 clutch slave cylinder = FAG KN 4402 B1
replaced by
A 001 295 60 07 clutch slave cylinder = FAG KN 4402 C1

A 000 586 50 29 repair kit to clutch cylinder A 000 295 91 07
A 000 586 55 29 repair kit to clutch cylinder A 001 295 08 07

Your explanation about the difference between XENTRY and the old EPC was extremely helpful. It explains why my local Mercedes-Benz Truck dealer is seeing different information.

They checked the current system and sent me the attached dimensional drawing for the cylinder they believe is correct for my VIN (002 295 04 07). At first glance, however, it does not seem to match the original FTE cylinder installed on my truck.

Before ordering any parts, I will compare the dimensions of my original cylinder with this drawing. That should confirm whether it is really the correct replacement or whether I should continue looking for the PTO cylinder (A 001 295 60 07 / FTE KN4402 C1).

Does anyone experience with Spareto?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to give you a final update.

I was able to solve the problem by having new seals custom-made by a company specialized in manufacturing special seals to order. They used a material specifically compatible with brake fluid and also reconditioned the original FTE cylinder.

The cylinder is now working properly and there are no leaks.

It’s great that the people on this forum were able to help you out. I’ve learned some useful things here myself too and got aa lot of information. (still have to say: Pirx thank you so much)
Just recently, I ran into a problem with the air-assisted clutch master cylinder on my 1019AF. The air assistance was used to operate the clutch when engaging the PTO for the fire pump.
This specific type of cylinder—featuring an added external air-pressure actuator at the rear unit, near the original pump—is no longer manufactured and is no longer available for purchase. Rebuilding it isn't an option either.
By modifying the clutch pedal bracket (pedal box), I was able to purchase and install a different type of cylinder (Rod: A 381 295 00 33 and Cylinder: A 001 295 60 06).
After some measuring, fitting, grinding, and welding, the new setup is far stronger than the original, and the clutch works perfectly again.

I know that many owners of vehicles with this type of air-assisted clutch cylinder run into problems with them sooner or later.
So I hope this information will help others when converting their clutch system.
In case someone needs more info I can provide foto’s. (However on FB (Frans Donners) and Instagram (f.donners) you find my foto’s also.)
