Driving trough Germany, from south to north
I'll by a Duro camper in Bern, Switzerland and drive trough Germany to Denmark / Kiel on my way to Norway.
http://www.allrad-lkw-gemeinschaft.de/p ... 96#p536896
Is there any places I should / should not visit? Any places I should / have to avoid?
Any places where I can benefit the trucks off-road capabilities, maybe combined with the camping possibilities?
How are the rules for camping outside camping plates in Germany, any restrictions?
So far my plan is to visit neuschwanstein castle and then go to Forchheim for a technical check.
The Mosel walleye and REIMO in Egelsbach will of course be of big interest.
But I don't know if I might get juridical problems with this extra travel with temporary signs.

Hi, this is a lot of questions can be answered not even barely. But the nearly 1,000 km through Germany, there is so much to see that you can say quite hard this must not see that. Then it gets to the personal interests of a museum like the others say never nothing for me. The topic of sleep is a little easier to answer. General may again for producing the ability to drive one night to spend the night at a suitable location if that is not expressly prohibited, note signs! Ifs something should cost, there are nearly in every city RV parks that are allowed to be on which stayed usually parking for a fee between 5 and 15 € The equipment is very different Possible features:.. Ups (machine) supply / disposal, toilet, shower and so on. These places are marked with a sign: Black motorhome on a white background and P for parking.

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
I'll try to make my question somewhat different.
I'll not have much time, so I don't think I can have a route much longer than the one I get by visiting the places I've already mentioned.
I know it's much more interesting to drive on the small roads than the autobahn, but I can't drive them all the way.
So where to take the autobahn and where to drive the small roads?
Which places to stop by while passing? I suppose Nürnberg is a strong candidate with the old town.
Might temporary plates give me problems if I drive trough Ostrich on my way to Neuschwanstein?
Driving north of the Boden lake seems stupid when watching the map.
Would be more interesting to drive a little into the Alpes, on road 193 and 200.
Among the things I'm interested in is taking photos.
There are photo motives all over the world, but some are nicer than others.

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
Hello, So I am now taking time to which it is to go over A 7 north. With little time, I would Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Würzburg, Göttingen, Hamburg look. we drive on the highway with our Magirus a maximum of 500 km per day. Without any thing to watch. For Rothenburg, Wurzburg, I would schedule a day standing, Göttingen 1/2 day, Hamburg least 2 days. It is best to visit even the cities on the Internet and see if there's something interesting there.
Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
hello, germany is a good choice for travel around, How many day's will you stay? Munich is a must, about the other city wrotes garfiled. good ist the technical museum sinsheim, the german museum munich, the railway museum munich, there are places to look for many weeks.
when the temporary signs are not out of time and in european countrys valid and the insurance pays in germany too maybe it works.

Hei,
If you like to visit smaller ancient cities, so stop at Büdingen or Gelnhausen. Büdingen has its original fortifiyng walls and towers from the 15th century and complete restored wooden houses and a medieval castle
Have a look at http://www.buedingen.info/en/
Have a great time.

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
Is there a good rout planner for such trip?
So far I've been using Google Earth, but is not very satisfied.
I want to tell that I'l drive a truck going max 80km/h. Thus shorter roads will get higher priority than autobahn, and time estimates will be more accurate. Specifying that I want go go the shortest road could be an alternative, but sometimes that road might be illegal (at least on my GPS).
It would also be nice to know where there are toll stations, begging for money for driving on the fast road. There's several messages about it on Google Earth, but I don't think it knows exactly where they're located, only on which roads.

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
Hei, try http://www.maps.google.com there you can add several places on your trip.
Have also a look at "Point Alpha" as known as "The Fulda Gap".
There, during the "Cold War" US and Russian troops stood very close to each other. It was one of the most western points of the GDR.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observation_Post_Alpha
http://www.pointalpha.com/en
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulda_Gap
http://www.fulda-gap.de (unfortunately only in german language available)
If your vehicle is less than 12 tons and not registered as a transport truck you do not have to pay any toll. Watch out for traffic signs for weight limitation on smaller roads or smaller towns.
Best regards, Martin.

I've tried to click on it, open in a new tab and copy the address when replying here.
But no matter what i do, I only get a map of Bern.
But I think I'll manage to do this myself, at least for the trip I've already planned.
A little strange that Google Earth doesn't have the same possibilities.

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
The truck needs new tires, something which is cheapest in Germany.
I've sent request to reifenforum24 asking for tires without VAT, but hasn't got any reply.
The alternative is to change them somewhere in Southern Germany so they look old enough when I come to Norway.
Any tips about a station which does a good job at a reasonable price?

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
Well, our tyre dealer is not located on your actual route, but the guys do a good job and prices are reasonable, too. So if a 100 km detour is acceptable, I might ask for the price of 6 MPT81. But I am afraid, VAT will be charged anyhow. It is listed on the invoice, so maybe it's possible for you to get it back...groentas hat geschrieben:The truck needs new tires, something which is cheapest in Germany.

Re: Driving trough Germany, from south to north
When investigating on Googlemaps, I found it would take all to long time if I shouldn' use autobahn at all. On th eother hand, I found that avoiding toll stations made the trip a little longer than necessary, so I ended up doing that.
Just before I left I realized that I had to visit the alpes when I was so far south. It's easier to visit Germany again than going all the way to Switzerland.
Therefor I ended up driving trough the alpes for a few days, visited the kings castle, had the technical control, bought a few things at REIMO and stayed a night in the Mosel walley before I headed north.
There are several photos at Picasa, but I'm still not finished.
Be aware that it's necessary to watch the images as slideshow to read my comments.

The truck has been half a year in western Africa, mostly along the coast.
I think the previous owners thought the car would not rust in Sahara, and thus didn't rustprotect it.
But since there's a lot of salt blowing from the sea, the situation was the opposite.

Hi,
if you like to go over Nürnberg you may also stop in Cadolzburg (free standing, only power and water must be paid if need, for pictures see "Treffen und Termine").
More to the north you may stop to visit also Einbeck (near Göttingen) and visit city and the PS-Speicher https://ps-speicher.de/ .
If you like military stuff you may visit the tank museum in Munster or if you like some nice old cities there around like Lüneburg.
Have fun.

Yes, there was no problem to sleep in the car, neither in Switzerland nor Germany.
I've been sleeping in rather different places, like in the mountains in Switzerland, on parking lots in the center og German cities and close to a beach in Sweden.
I was most surprised that camping in the cities went well, but in a car as tall as this, people passing can't see that I'm in the car when I close the curtains.
It's not so easy to enter the car either, so it's somewhat burglar prooth. At least -resistant.
I've done a lot reduce the engine noise (basically painting the cabin floor with Noxudol 3100), and have finally got Norwegian plates for it.
But there's still a lot to do, like mounting warm water tank and a sink in the bath room.
