Leak from gearbox gasket/sleeve? 170d111

Hi guys!

I have a small leak from the gasket/sleeve that seals the kardanwelle as it exits the gearbox and goes towards the differential lock. Please see picture.

What oil can I refill with (until I have time to fix it)? Do I just fill up until it spills over?

Does anyone know where I can buy this gasket/sleeve?

Thanks!

Best regards Peter

Hallo Peter,
i guess, your picture refers to the kardan of the front axle. The gasket has the dimesion 75x110x13 mm version BASL or B1SL or B1USL produced by Freudenberg.
fill up gear oil SAE80 in standard quality.

You  !

Thank you very much I will see if I can locate it somewhere in Denmark.

May I ask where you got the info? Is there some catalogues that are useful so I do not have to ask every time? :-)

hallo Peter,
i have already changed this gasket in my 170 Magirus by myself.
So this info is based on my own experience. You can rely on that.
Freudenberg as producer of the gasket is only an exampel.
Other exampels could be Elring, Busak or Merkel.
Every producer has a catalog of the standard-dimensions, which are usually on stock.
Ask your spare-parts-distributor.

Hi!

Do you know the sizes of the gaskets for the differentials? Will the gasket that you mention above fit on both sides of the VTG?

the above indicated dimension fits for the Input Kardan to differential frontaxle Magirus 170D11.
the 3 gaskets of vtg have other dimensions.
i have noted this Dimensions and will look for them in my documentation.

front axle: are you shure that the oil does not come from above ("Kurbelwelle" towards clutch / clutch toward gearbox)?

Hi

I have a leak on the rearmost output from the VTG (to rear diff) on the VTG.

Now I also have a leak from the front differential on the differential itself.

I guess that the gaskets are just old so perhaps I should buy them all and then change them as they break. I will save on shipping if I buy all at one time

So the front diff gasket is the same as the rear diff gasket? Then I only need the 3 VTG gaskets and the output gasket from the gearbox to the VTG. Perhaps I should also purchase the gasket for the engine towards the flywheel and the gearbox shaft gasket. Do you have those as well?

Thanks in advance!

@ Udo yes that is actually a very good point. I have an oil leak there as well... Is that usually from the engine side or the gearbox?

Dear Peter,

regarding the oil, if there is some part of brass or copper built in take GL4, GL5 may cause some corrosion there.
If you did not get some standard gear box oil also some circulating oil (german Umlauföl) may be usable.
I use Shell Morlina in my VTG (Robur) because this VTG is on the limit (thermal and by torque).

Please also check if your cardanic weels are ok. Sometimes such leakage is a first sign that there is some vibration.
Next will be some problem with the bearings and later on a damaged connection.
There should be no noticable air somewhere.

Best regards

Veit

That sealing type of the Motor depends on the Motor.
It might be a "Borgmann Dichtung", a slide ring seal, where a small amount of leakage is quite normal and needed by design.
It might be a normal retaining ring, where leakage is not expected.

I have no experiences or reports about the probability of "engine side or the gearbox". Changing the gasket over there means "unmount the motor" or "unmount the gearbox". In that case it is recommendet to change both sealings, check the clutch and so on.

Anyway a leakage over there might appear like a leakage at front axle inlet.

Udo

the leackage near the clutch comes usually from the gasket of the flywheel, not from the input-shaft of the gearbox. in this case the leackage-oil is motoroil with black Color.otherwise ist oil of the gearbox with a strange smell, clear and Color like honey.
The above menitoned gasket 105x130x12 is compatibel IVECO-Exchange-part for the original-part.
For exchange of all the gaskets between Motor, clutch and gearbox, you have to dismout the gearbox, not the motor.
For dismount the vtg-flange output to rear axle, you need a special shaped 65mm nut with 1 Inch drive.
For that a Standard nut can be machined.
good luck für all this amout of work.

@Veit
we talk about Magirus, not about Robur.
Please excuse this Little joke.

So I just ordered the complete set from wychbearings.co.uk

Something like 110 euros for 10 seals. Should get me through the next years of driving, and I will gladly spend some extra euros so I do not have to be stuck somewhere waiting for a small part :-)

The rear axle input is 75x110x14 (Iveco 40102043)

Thanks for you help, I hope others can use the fine list Sico has contributed with! :unwuerdig:
