Conversion of Mercedes Vario into allrad vehicle.

I understand the Mercedes-Benz Vario was available in SWB and LWB as a 4x4 (allrad vehicle) I am told the AdEN is finished production but the large vehicle is still available. Is this correct?
Alternativebidea was to convert a normal Vario into 4x4. This means front drive axle and possible gearbox works?

There are two converted Varios represented in this forum. One is an old police squad bus 711 (don't remember the memeber's name yet) and there was another one which undertook this conversion by "just" tranferring the 4wheel axles with a lengthened drive shaft, as far as I remember.
It looks that your idea is a capable opportunity.

Danke for the advice. I had hoped reasonable simple idea without changing gearbox.

Vario spares sold. Are there pictures/information on the conversion? Alternative is a 608D?
