Hi,
Sorry that I can't write in German.
We are not new to overland travel. Over the last 19 months we have travelled from the UK to South Korea in our T3 Westfalia Syncro.
As awesome as it is we are considering purchasing a LA1113. We need more space!!
I have searched for answers but I can't find them.
We intend on use and FRP box, with alcove. Looking at the costs of windows, skylights, oven, shower, cassette toilet etc the cost soon add up substantially.
I can buy a damaged 2016 Adria Tamar for under £8k. It looks like there are a lot of parts we could use or modify. But the question is, would things like the windows, skylights be suitable?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum
It's fine to ask questions in English, but be prepared for German answers. Some users are quite comfortable reading English, but won't respond in this language

Hi,
Thank you.
I'm very happy to receive replies in German. To be honest, I think it is only right, after all this is a German forum.
Thank you.

Hi Resfeber,
Welcome!
So I guess you are from UK?
It would be helpful if you would be more precise. We don’t know which windows are in there.
After looking to some pictures, they could be Dometic s4. There are very common. I know that some people (in this forum) build some boxes with these windows.
Does FPR stands for fiberglass reinforced Plywood?
I would say it depends on your construction…
Do you build your box on your own or by a company? Do you want to use a completed box from another vehicle?
In general, what’s your plan?
Sorry but it’s very hard to give you answers to your questions.
Let us know what are you planing to do.
Cheers Max

Re: New to trucks, advice please
hi resfeber welcome! WoW good adventure the Asia in a T3! Good project, Mercedes is very reliable and repairable throughout the world. You can take advantage of a refrigerated or fruit box already built in grp at a good price. Windows and skylights can be put on other vehicles or built to measure. You have to make a sketch of the distribution that you like the most. It is a long and beautiful jobResfeber hat geschrieben: ↑2019-01-29 14:05:52Hi,

Hi,
Sorry, for not providing more detail.
Yes, we are from England, and will arrive back in a couple of weeks to start this project.
I intend on building a vehicle along these lines. http://mercedeslaf710.com/
But a shorter box. Around 6m.
Internally, we want a fixed double over the cab area and two fixed single bunks, separate shower and toilet. The rest we can work around.
Initially we were going to have the box built by a specialist. But with quotes coming in for box shell and sub frame between 30-40k euros, we are looking at alternative options.
I was asking about the windows as I couldn't find specs on them. I was using the Adria as an example as it was available at the time.
Again, looking at this caravan. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bailey-Pagea ... 0011.m1850
They looks to be a huge amount of parts that can be used. I'm just bouncing ideas off of you guys as you have more knowledge of these things than I do.
Due to the high cost of have a box built and as it has been brought to my attention. I'm sure they are very good. We have had experience of living in +45c to -20C. TBH, is we can modify a secondhand truck body and save 25k Euros, I'm sure we can live with some compromises.
I have had a look online at the insulated truck bodies. If we buy ine that is much longer than we need, we can use the off cut to replace where the rear doors are. Something like this maybe.

If you think any ideas are stupid please say. I'm sure there any many things that I have taken into consideration.
