leaf springs

Hello, can anyone tell me if this is correct the position for the helper spring or should there be a gap between the springs and the rubber mount on my 911.

Hi David!

The gap between the helper springs and the rubber mount depends from the axle load, of course.

There are a lot of different springs for the rear axle that once could be ordered. But AFAIK the helper springs should already contact the rubber mounts with very low axle loads. This means starting with a rear axle load (truck and cargo) of about 1500 - 2000 kg.

I think your truck will have a much higher rear axle load, so I would not expect a gap. In my opinion and according to the informations I have, this spring behaviour is just normal.

Anyway, it will not hurt to check for broken spring leafs ...

Greetings to Venezuela,

This depends on the weight of the truck. Is it empty and has no heavy installations?

Thanks for the info.
our truck fully loaded is 7800kg but when this picture was taken it is about 7400kg.
both leaf springs at the back are touching the rubber mounts all the time, has been since we got the truck before converting the back, the main springs are close to horizontal.
can not see any broken leafs but we are going into brasil to manuas and maybe get them re calibrated if they need it.
one more question we are looking for a spare water pump for the engine and can only find a 366 water pump, this is for a om366 engine will it fit my 352 as they are quite standard or do we need to source a 352 water pump
many thanks
dave

Hi Dave,

i think your springs are a little bit lazy. If you want to be sure, let them upgraging at a spring factory.
Nearly unbelievable that you dont get a new water pump. Go to your Mercedes dealer with your Car-ID and you will get the right water pump.
Mind, Mercedes has the best part support from each car manufactors world wide.

Good Journey
