Doubts to buy a chassis

#1 Beitrag von Magicvehicle » 2018-05-02 23:03:20

Hello forum, thanks to you I am clear many doubts of our project.
But there is a question that I am not yet decided.
I like the Mercedes LN2 engine om366, or also enter my list Magirus or iveco. But after some reports from other travelers, about the complications of taking a truck over 25 years for a world trip.
I would like to know what you think of the MAN 13.290 4X4 more modern? ..
Maybe too modern to solve a fault in a lost country?..
Is there the possibility of buying an application to solve computer faults en route?
thanks for your time, best regards.

It might be a little Bit a gamble.

MAXD really travels with his MAN and nearly no problems.

I just spoke with a friend who is in Trucks and drives a 30 year old Iveco about that. He thinks about a new Volvo 4x4. He travels everywhere over the world for his own company. And says, he sees everywhere new Trucks and thinks they don't have big electronic problems.... so why not buying a new one. You will be able to enter all critical zones because of pollution restrictions..... as I said before it is a little bit a game...... And a believe system

Thanks for the quick response, I imagine that all the problems can be solved with time. I do not know how many people own a new vehicle around here, it would be interesting their perspective throughout their experience. a greeting

Most of them would answer..... in my opinion most of the writers are orientated in old stuff....
Go to Bad Kissingen and ask the owners on the campground and the companies there

Drivers of old trucks talk about old cars and the ones that drive new ones talk about the new ones... at the end of the day you'll not have a clear picture.

Old cars are facing more or less mechanical problems. Sometimes you can solve or at least have an improvisational solution. But sometimes you won't fix the problem without a spare part that maybe is not (easy) available. With the new ones you may have electronic prolems or you need a software tool to solve it.
I think it's not choosing between black and white it's more or less choosing a scale of grey.
1) THW 90-16 ist zu Hause (07.11.2014), 2) LAK 2 ist zu Hause (7.12.2014) 3) Fahrzeugart geändert (19.01.2015)
4) Eisenschwein ist zugelassen (17.03.2015) 5) Umbauten am "Trägerfahrzeug" beendet (12.04.2015) 6) H Gutachten erteilt (15.12.2015)

7) Diesellotte (120-25 AW, Bautrupp mit H) ist angekommen (26.02.2021)

Der Trend geht eindeutig zum Zweitlkw ;-)

Hi, thanks for the answers, I understand the perspective of older or more modern. If we finally choose a more modern vehicle, it is with the intention of being able to reach all the prohibited places. In that case it seems that there are diagnostic systems to solve electronic breakdowns. What do you think of this team? They sell it to me with the installed software and with guarantees. Has anyone worked with this team?

Hi,

I own those Delphi device. There are a few of possibilities in the software to read and erase failures. But there are only the maintenance systems in the device... For example, if you replace a injector in a modern commonrail engine, you must adjust the properties in the MCM/ECU. These properties must be able to all workshops.

The Delphi device don't allow you to adjust main properties or values. There are special devices like Mercedes Xentry or other equipment from the OEM for flashing a new firmware.

Next, you need special licenses to go deeper in the systems... If you are a crack in programming or hacking you will get also access in the systems, but normally there is no way in!!!

But if you are in trouble and the engine is in emergency-mode, maybe it's possible to erase failures to reset the MCM/ECU, and you can go forward!!!

I'm working in development in a big engeneering-company, especially for engeneering-company commercialvehicles. I think there are no big issues to stop a modern truck... The main important thing today is a good quality of fuel!!! The biggest problems are the aftertreatmentsystems!!!

Cheers Chris

Hi Chris, thank you for sharing your experience. Interesting! about the quality of the fuel, because I'm sure there are different treatments or filters to not damage the engine. Could you tell a good filter or system to study it? Greetings Toni

The Mercedes LN2 engine om366 is worldwide common and known technology - the Iveco and Magirus not so much. Spare parts for Mercedes are also easier to get than for Iveco and Magirus - at least outside Europe. That doesn't mean you'll get all and everywhere - same as with a new truck! But all are capable trucks.
Personally I don't understand electronics and dislike them, so the decision is easy for me. :D
Mit bestem Gruss

Jürgen

Hi,
The main problem is not the pollution in the fuel. These problems can be solved with good filter systems like eg Separ or others! It's about the sulfur. The sulfur does not burn and the soot filter may closes or the catalysts in the aftertreatment systems / exhaustboxes. If you stay in a country without Euro Diesel like EN 590 you'll get problems with a EURO V / VI engine, if you doesn't modify the soft-and hardware from the aftertreatmentsystem! That's the main reason why the OEM sells EURO III trucks in Africa, Asia or Middle America. Have a look in this map: Click All countrys with other colour than shiny blue the sulfur level is to high for EURO V/VI!

Nice evening

Chris

Thank you Greetz Chris, I will keep this image on the sulfur content in fuels around the world.

I have continued to ask and there seems to be no real ban on vehicles over 25 years old for import into Australia or Canada.
If this is so, continuing on the line of the Mercedes brand, I like the Mercedes long nose! Specifically the 1924 LAK is beautiful, it seems that it has a lot of personality or soul ..
But maybe it is an unrealistic option?..
Are there spare parts for these trucks around the world? ... is essential ABS, hydraulic steering better, among other extra in the wohnmobil?..

And another option that we also like is the Mercedes of the early 90s, with OM366 engine.
These vehicles do have other amenities, less ambient noise in driving, among other improvements. And a more realistic price than the Mercedes LAK has triggered its price!

Because thinking about rehabilitating an old Mercedes LAK would be too expensive?..

thank you, best regards Toni

Good morning, thank you for sharing the offer, unfortunately we prefer the OM366 engine, I hope everything goes as you wish.
Now we have seen a truck that we like in Bremen, and we would like some advice on the truck in the field viewtopic.php?f=4&t=81109&p=764377#p764377
