New member, Iveco Magirus 90-16 AW

#1 Beitrag von SpeedAddict502 » 2016-08-01 16:04:30

Hey guys, hope you are well. I am not sure how many people on here speak English and I didnt know what forum to post this in but this is the only one I saw some other trucks that I know.

I just imported an Iveco Magirus 90-16 AW from Germany. Ive had a Unimog SBU before this, but wanted something with a big cab this time.

I am having trouble finding much information on them beyond the basics, and also want a place to be able to buy parts.

Hopefully some people here can help!

Thanks,

Tyler from Texas

Hi Tyler!

Welcome to the forum :)
We have a few members who speak English, so feel free to ask questions.

Regarding parts, depending what you need, there are different places to go to.
Which parts do you need right now?

Awesome! Thank you for the reply!

One of my first questions was about tires. I am definitely switching to super singles and was curious how big you can go on these without rubbing? Several of the pictures of these with big singles I see are linked to this forum, so I was curious how big everyone recommends to go.

As far as parts, it is mainly chassis parts I am looking for. I can actually get Deutz engine parts pretty easy here already, but chassis parts I dont know where to look. The only problem I am having right now is a very bad steering wheel shake at certain speeds. In the US we call this death wobble. It could just be tires, but I think I am hearing a clunk in the front end as well. I am wondering if a tie rod or leaf spring shackle bushing is bad. Is this a common problem, has anyone else had this? I also think I will need a brake fluid reservoir seal as the rear one is leaking brake fluid out of the reservoir.

As far as upgrades, have any of yall added AC? This is something I am looking at doing. What about an intercooler upgrade on the Deutz engine? Is anyone turning up the pumps? What about a PTO winch instead of the front water pump unit? Any other good upgrades?

Look forward to hearing some of your comments!

Tyler

Hy Tyler,

usual tyre upgrades are 12.5/14.5 inch multi purpose tyres (335/80R20 MPT or 365/80R20 MPT on a 11-20 SDC rim).

To upgrade an AC is not very common in Germany and of course some of use try to get the status of an "historical" car/truck (less fees) and so you aren't allowed to upgrade....

4) Eisenschwein ist zugelassen (17.03.2015) 5) Umbauten am "Trägerfahrzeug" beendet (12.04.2015) 6) H Gutachten erteilt (15.12.2015)

7) Diesellotte (120-25 AW, Bautrupp mit H) ist angekommen (26.02.2021)

Der Trend geht eindeutig zum Zweitlkw ;-)

Hallo Tyler,
you put a lot of questions into one text. Please let me allow to sort them to get them easier to read. This will hopefully increase the amount of answers.
(recommendation: don't mix tires and motor upgrade and brake questions into one writing. This creates the risk that nothing get answered well)

If your axles have 8 bolts you need to find suitable rims first. Pls check

* quantity of bolts and their position and type of the holes
* rim offset (ET)
* speed index

Hey guys hows it going. Well I have finally completed a few things I have been wanting to do on the truck. Thought I would post a picture for you to see.

I fit some 12.00R20 tires on it on some 20x10 wheels I had refinished and powdercoated. Also removed the huge side steps for much more ground clearance. I also took the tall ladder racks off the top and just left a few inches for storing items up there. Looks much more tough!

I am thinking about painting the fenders and front bumper black instead of white, but I havent decided on that yet. I am also going to remove the water pump up front but so far have only pulled the driveshaft.

For the guys that have these, are there any common failure points on these I should be looking out for?

I am planning on some long trips coming up but dont to oversee something that can leave me stranded.

This one has only 30k kilometers on it, I am hoping there is nothing too wrong, but I wanted to ask some forum members what to watch out for.

I changed the oil and checked all fluids, however I also want to bleed the brakes, how is that done on these with the air over hydraulic setup?

Thanks!
Tyler

I also have a 90-16 in the US. I am located in WY and have had the truck for only a short time. I had wheels custom made for it and am currently running Michelin XZL military tires as a super single setup. I am hoping to get a copy of repair/service manuals in hard copy or electronic. Does anyone know where I can source a set?

Welcome :)

I'm not too sure whether the service manuals are available, but you could search the forum for "Bedienungsanleitung" or "Werkstatthandbuch" or "Handbuch" and combine these words with "90 16".

Feel free to ask questions in English, we have a few members here who will answer in English, or we can translate back and forth ;)

Hi Tyler,

well one of the must good upgrades is to replace transfer gearbox!
Check your "pad" on yours.

Hi did you solve the problem With the Death Wobble?
I got a 80-130AW w/short Wheelbase.
In Winter time when roads over her are bumpy due to road base freezing I sometimes experience severe Death Wobble.
Truck hits bump in speeds of 60-80 km/t and front wheels start shaking so it is difficult to keep the truck on the road.
I can't fint any wear or slack in the suspension. Truck is only 42000km. Toe in is checked OK. Shock absorbers OK.
I Wonder if the absence of a front track-bar is the reason for the wobble?

Hey thanks for the reply. Mine did end up going away. Mine ended up being the tires. Not sure why as they had great tread and they were the tires that came with the truck, but they were the issue. Toe was good on mine as well, shocks, etc. all good. Put new tires on it with balancing beads, never had the problem again.

Hope this helps!
