Question about LS 7 "servolenkung"

Hi,

Sorry for not writing in German, but I'm looking for information how to build a LS 7 into a mercedes 911.

And if it's posible?

Like to hear from somebody.

hallo!
the hydraulikpump is really no problem...its the same in every MB truck, from the 70s-80s...new original from ebay about 100 euro
the power-stearing is a big problem...normaly you mast wrack an old 911 or 1113 truck to get one...
maybe you can get it from ZF or MB, but very expencive
you also need so mounting kit, called "Konsole lenkgetriebe" and the part"lenkstockhebel"

Hi Tim,

you know that the LS 7 is used in the "heavy" Kurzhauber-Trucks (for example 1624, 1924, ...)???
The standard-used power steering in the "medium-heavy" Kurzhauber-Trucks (911, 1113, ...) is the LS 5.

LS 5 and LS 7 look quite similar but there are still some external differences. And "inside" they have for example a different transmission-ratio and the LS 7 has more power: 4090 <-> 5260 Nm (hydraulic torque at the steering shaft).

I have built a LS5 in my 1113.
Does anybody know if the LS7 does fit to the same "Konsole" as LS5.
Is the length of the Gearbox the same?

long question short!
Would it be simply possible to exchange the LS5 with a LS7?
Are the relevant dimensions identical?

Hallo Jakob,

sieht nicht so gut aus... Rote Punkte: nach einem flüchtigen Blick durch den Radkasten wird an diesen Stellen das Lenkgetriebe mit der Konsole verschraubt.
Ich hätte auch Bedenken, dass ich mir mit der kräftigeren Lenkung in extremen Situationen irgendwelche Teile überbelaste/beschädige?

in meinem Werkstatthandbuch ist ne andere Abbildung auf der das Lochschema nicht zu sehen ist, es aber aussieht als seien die Lenkungen sehr ähnlich/identisch von den Dimensionen her.

und genau aus diesem Grund hab ich immer behauptet dass die LS7 auch Einzug im hauber gehabt haben muss. Und ich meine das EPC gibt ähnliche Hinweise.

Beweise stehen aber noch aus.

So I can make a new groundplate.

The only thing I can't figure out is the torque. Can I wreck other parts because of the torqeu?

Or does somebody know where I can get a LS 5 steeringhouse?

Hello Tim,

not sure where you want to operate your truck but if it is somewhere in the EU I would not make a groundplate yourself.

If I look at mine when I see that it is quite strong and has some "Sicken" (german word) to even increase strenght. Whatever you build there, it will break sooner or later. And believe me, you do not want this to happen while driving on a motorway.

If you can wreck a complete LS7 from somewhere including the groundplate and the hydraulic pump, then go for it. If not, forget it!

Do not forget that you also need the "Lenkhebel" (again german) if you do not have that one and use one which is not of the right lenght you change the geometry of the whole steering, no good idea.

I think the groundplate is cast steel. So the ribs are mainly to keep the strength while reducing weight and material. A steel plate with the thickness of plate with ribs should be strong enough.
Tim, you could perhaps get in trouble with the different bolt holes.

P.S. Lenkhebel means steering arm.

P.P.S. I think, I just mixed up console and cast-on mounting plate. Thought of an adaptor plate...
