Warum fahrt er nur 85kmh? how to recognize fast axles?

#1 Beitrag von MXMXM » 2007-12-07 14:22:31

Hallo
Ich habe ein mb 911 mit michelin xzy baustellen reifen. 315/80/22.5
Das auto fahrt 85km/h
when i bought it the guy said it had servo and fast axles.
Das das auto keine servo hat war klar, ich hab es doch gekauft fur ein bessere preis. Die tachowelle war kaput bei test fahren haben wir nicht gesehen wie schnell er war.
Das von der servo was a lie, vieleicht auch von den achsen.
Frage how do i know if they are fast achsen?
Is there a number to check, can you see?

thanx Max

Hi Max,

considering you already have tires with ~1100mm diameter, you actually must have the short gear ratio axles. There are several ways to change the situation:

1. You change the diff sprockets to those with the desired tall ratio. Costs somewhere in the region of 5000€ (parts and labour) upwards for both axles. If you can find the parts at all.

2. You get yourself a complete set of taller ratio axles at a wreckers or elsewhere. Hard to find, though. Price to be negotiated, but should be cheaper than the sprocket sets. It is a lot of work, however.

3. You change your tires to even larger ones - 14.00 R20 is a common size that should just fit with small modifications. This would give you roughly 10% more top speed. Then you would require both new rims and tires. But that is not so bad if you have a good set of rims/tires to trade in.

4. You find a gear box with an overdrive top gear. Very rare items, mostly require substantial modifications and rework to fit the Benz. Try the search function, this has been a topic lately ("Schnellganggetriebe").

Chosse your poison....

Cheers,
Kai
