Erfahrungen mit Chrom-6 auf eine FM2 Kabine? Ist Chrom-6 gebraucht?

Hallo Ivan,
was ist genau Deine Frage zu Cr6+ und Alu? Hast Du Angst, dass die Kabine mit Cr6+ behandelt wurde? Diese Frage könnte ich nicht beantworten. Aber mit lackiertem Alu und der Vorbehandlung, kenne ich mich ein wenig aus.
Gerne auch in englisch, wenn Dir das leichter fällt.

Gut möglich, dass Teile zur Lackvorbereitung mit "Alodine" (Gelbchromat) oberflächenbehandelt wurden, ja. War damals gängige Praxis in der Luftfahrt und da die Shelter teils aus der Luftfahrtindustrie kamen...
Kann man dann an unlackierten Stellen am "gelblichen" Schimmer erkennen!

Meiner Kenntnis nach ist Chrom-6 aber unkritisch, wenn es nicht inhaliert, getrunken oder gegessen wird. Es kann aber z.B. ab- bzw. ausgewaschen werden, so in den Wasserkreislauf und damit in die Nahrungskette gelangen. Daher müssen die Speichersteine von Nachtspeicheröfen z.B. als Sondermüll entsorgt werden. Solange sie aber irgendwo trocken gelagert werden, sind sie unkritisch.

You could ask at the Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie eV . They know everything about aluminium. You even can send a piece of your shelter to check it.

bei den VEBEG-Sheltern steht immer "Schadstoffbefreit" oder so ähnlich.
ok, die meinen eher andere Sachen. Aber würden die sowas verkaufen ohne Sicherheitshinweis ?

Well, in this case I don't think you have to worry. The hexavalent Cr reacts with the aluminum to Cr3+. The people wo have to worry are those who applied the coating at the time. Those were the ones exposed to the Cr6+.
Would I scare you, if I told you, that until just very recently many aluminum packages for food and drinks were still treated with Cr6+? But still, the packaging, even treated with Cr6+, is still healthier for you than many foods or drinks that were packaged in this aluminum.
If I was you I would be more worried at the gas station about the fumes you are breathing in there. The Cr6+, that you shelter was possibly treated with, will for sure not get you sick. But there are many other things out there that may.

Thanx for the extra info! No plan to paint the shelter but when the sand paper comes in I will use a mask to be sure. I read that the dust from Chrome-6 is dangerous.

I heard that the dust of the military paint itself is very dangerous. It is a special paint, designed to minimize IR-reflection and seems to include some unusual and very toxic substances.
But I never heard of a special problem with Cr6 on the german military shelters. Anyway, you should definitely put on a mask when sanding the paint!

Yes the paint is bad due the Chrom-6 additive.

I'm wondering if the paint also includes lead alloys? They were quite common back at the time most shelters were produced...

Anyway, you should always use protective equipment as was already said before.
