Hi Phil,

do you have a diagram that shows the electrical wiring of your truck? Is there a sensor that controls if the glow plugs of your engine are activated during start? This would be the point where I would start to understand the function and after that check if the involved components work as designed.

Eine Vorglühanlage gibt es an diesem Auto nicht, das ist ein Direkteinspritzer.
Bleibt also noch: Flammstartanlage oder Dieselheizung (Filterheizung oder Leitungsheizung gegen Versulzen).

Wie so oft wäre das Problem vermutlich schnell geklärt, wenn man einfach einen Blick in die Betriebsanleitung werfen würde: wofür ist diese Kontrolleuchte da und was bedeutet es, wenn sie aufleuchtet.

You wrote "diesel heater", but this is a very unprecise designation. What is the original word (from the manual) for it?

Schaltplan wäre trotzdem auch mal ein Ansatz...

Thanks for your input guys, I have the owners manual but no help and I can't get hold of a workshop manual in English.

I think it could be a problem with the flame-start system, unless a system is installed.
At low temperatures outside, it flashes for a few minutes after starting the engine.

The light is on constantly, or flashing the light after starting the engine?

The light flashes before starting the engine but is on all the time after starting the engine.
