Tilting double cab on ex-THW Magirus 170D11

#1 Beitrag von Nomadis » 2008-03-10 13:39:45

Hello
On my ex-THW Magirus 170D11 I’m planning to tilt up the double cab.
- To do so, would someone have specific advises or a “do & don’t ckeck list”?
- What is the load (weight) to be expected on the lifting system (crane, hosting device)?
- Has someone already build up a system that allows doing it without the help of any external system?

Thanks - mathieu

Hello,

the dont's:
- Don't forget to unmount the batterys!
- Don't forget to lift the "Kühlergrill" (radiator grill?)

There is a system to lift the cabin original mounted on 170d11 since 1980. But there is no chance to buy one of these...

I think it don't make any sense to build souch a system yourself. The weeks and the money could be better spend somewhere else. I think i have screwed every screw on my 170d11 since 2002, but i never lifted the cabin. Maby to change the clutch, the engine or the gearbox its an advantage, but for this rare situations one can use external systems.

MlG,
Felix

Thanks for the advice.

Actually, I must tilt the cab to repair (thus remove top wards) one the fuel tank which is leaking. I will take the benefit of that work to better access other organs.

One question remains: What is the load (weight) to be expected on the lifting system (crane, hosting device)?

If you are inspired feel free to answer my other post (ie. Tools for spring suspension removal)

Thanks anyway

Bonjour Mathieu,

we, too, tilt the cabin mainly for comfort reasons (exhaust, air pipes, ...).

Herefor, we use a square pipe " T " set on the frame and a 2 ton chain hoist. Wheight to be lifted is around 400 kg.

No, we do not have a sense of humour we're aware of.
