hi everyone, i just bought a unimog 406, i'm fixing it. I would like to replace the diesel filters, there are 2. currently the 2 hengst e5kfr2 d12 filters are mounted but I don't know if they must be all the same and I'm not sure if they are original. the type of filter is not written in the maintenance book, can someone help me?

Hello Steven,

both fuel filters are the same in the U406.

The Hengst E5KFR D12 is similar to the original filter (A0000901151).

But i wouldn't use these filters anymore. Better use a paper filter like the Hengst E5KP (D12)* or the Mann&Hummel P707 (x)*, they have more capacity and filter out smaller particles.

* here are the seal rings included.

btw. if you already have new E5KFR or simmilar filters you could use them as pre filter and install an E5KP or similar as main filter.

thank you, are you sure the filters are made of paper? Aren't they made of felt?
so I buy a hengst e5kfr2 d12 filter and a Mann & Hummel P707 (x) filter?
then I put them in the filter housing assembly ..

Hello Stephen,

the material is the main difference between the filters.
The E5KFR2 (D12) and the BFU700(x) (and all the others like that) are made from something like felt.
The E5KP (D12) and the P707(x) (and all the others like that) are made from paper.

Originally the felt based filters are defines as main filters, the pper based filters as pre filters. The reality is just the other way round, the paper material filters out smaller partikles than the felt material, and -due to the bigger surface- has more capacity then the felt.

So in reality there ist no reason to buy felt based filters, not even the price.

Use two paper based filters and forget the felt based ones ;)
